Original Diesel - Weasel’s cut
I got this cut from a growmie in SoCal. Pretty sure this is the Original Diesel clone that Weasel grew and sold in NYC in the late 90s. Weasel would not give out the clone for years. AJ would buy lbs of his sour for $6k at the club in NYC where the dead heads would hang out. Until he found one seed in the bud and germinated it and found the Sour Diesel. The reason it was called sour was because it had the power to sour friendships. It was so good that there was a lot of money at stake and Weasel got mad when AJ found that plant and started growing it and giving it out to other growers, because this meant Weasel was no longer the only one who could produce flower of that caliber. But AJ knew how hard it was to grow, and he knew most growers would not be able to grow it well enough. He had so much demand that he could not grow enough of it, so he gave it to the crew in Albany and they crushed it. He would buy pounds off them for $6k and resell them in NYC for $9k.
The original diesel and AJs sour diesel are remarkably similar plants, but there are some differences. The Original Diesel smells and tastes more like straight up Diesel Fuel fumes, where as the AJ/ Albany Sour Diesel has a little more of a skunky, deep rich earthy gas kind of like the Mass Super Skunk, on top of that gas fume terp. It is unclear what pollinated the Original Diesel to make the AJ Sour Diesel. It could have been a hermed Mass Super Skunk or a hermed Original Diesel.
The Original diesel takes about 10 weeks to flower. It does well outdoor in New York if you can push it into October. All diesel strains are extremely sensitive to nitrogen deficiency, and once they are deficient, it is hard to correct. I recommend growing it with salt based fertilizer, under HPS or Metal Halide lights. It doesn’t like LEDs like newer strains do. When it was originally found, LED lights didn’t exist yet and everyone was growing under high intensity lights. This means a hotter, dryer environment in the flower room. I recommend upping the nitrogen from your normal program, and flushing weekly with SLF100 enzymes to break down salt buildup in the root zone, which can inhibit nitrogen uptake. If you can dial this plant in, it makes some of the best flower and hash rosin I have ever smoked. Yields 4.9% to 45-159u hash that is extremely light in color. Expect 2-2.5x stretch. It gets tall so make sure you have high ceilings, or flip it early. You don’t want it growing into the lights. It will foxtail bad with excessive heat stress and can herm. Flowering time 10-11 weeks.
