Every once in a while you pop a pack and something jumps out of the tray that makes you stop and look twice. Not “pretty good.” Not “keeper for now.” I mean the kind where you’re already mentally clearing space in the mother room before the plant is even halfway through flower. That’s how Dracarys #5 happened.
Dracarys itself is a cross I made between Gorilla Glue #4 and Pre-98 Bubba Kush. The idea was simple enough on paper: take the savage resin production and punchy potency of the Glue and weld it to the dense, greasy, coffee-and-earth profile of Bubba. Anyone who’s grown either of those knows they both carry serious weight. The question was how the personalities would mix.
When the seeds were popped, most of the phenos leaned one way or the other. Some were very Glue-forward—stretchy plants with that familiar sour chem funk and resin everywhere. Others leaned Bubba—shorter, heavier structure, darker leaves, and that classic earthy kush backbone. But #5, hunted by Revfunk, came out of the pack doing its own thing.
Instead of straight gas or straight kush, #5 started throwing this deep chocolate note. Not candy chocolate—more like dark cocoa powder and roasted coffee beans, the kind of smell that makes you keep opening the jar just to check it again. Underneath that was the Gorilla Glue grease and a little bit of Bubba’s earthy kush base holding it all together.
Structure-wise it clearly respected its Bubba side. Compact plant, strong branching, thick stems, and buds that stack into heavy little grenades. By week six the resin had already gotten stupid. Thick heads, greasy texture, and the kind of frost that makes trimming scissors stick together. The Glue influence shows up hard there.
When it finally finished and hit the jar, the aroma got even louder. Chocolate, coffee, a little earth, and that faint glue-chem background that lets you know the potency is going to be real. Crack a nug and the room fills up immediately.
The smoke is where it really proves itself. First pull hits with that cocoa-kush flavor—dark, rich, almost creamy—followed by a little earthy spice and faint fuel on the back end. Not sweet, not fruity, not trendy dessert nonsense. Just heavy, old-school kush depth with a chocolate twist.
The high is classic heavy hybrid territory leaning strongly to the side. It hits fast behind the eyes with a warm, euphoric lift that clears the head for a few minutes. Then the body weight rolls in. Shoulders drop. Muscles loosen. You’re not panicking or racing—you’re settling in. Strong, long-lasting stone that creeps deeper the longer you sit with it.
Dracarys #5 ended up being one of those phenos that reminds you why you still hunt seeds in the first place. Every once in a while something pops that’s just a little different from everything else in the room.
And when that happens, you keep it.
