The original Jalalabad Star genetics were collected in 1988 from Salang Pass region of Afghanistan, carefully preserved for 37 years by ExSitu and recently regenerated by Legacy Ozarks in 2025 as part of the ExSitu Landrace Biodiversity Regeneration Project.
