Oreoz
LINEAGE: Cookies & Cream x Secret Weapon
BREEDER: 3rd Coast Genetics (Maxyields)
TYPE: Clone-Only
The name is a bit of misdirection. Oreoz doesn’t come from the Cookies brand, doesn’t trace back to a California operation, and wasn’t born out of the Bay Area scene that produced so many of the modern dessert strains people assume it belongs to. It came from the shores of Lake Michigan, out of a breeding program that most of the world wasn’t paying close enough attention to until it was already too late to ignore.
3rd Coast Genetics was founded in 2005 by a breeder known as Maxyields, working out of Michigan — the third coast, as Great Lakes locals have always called their stretch of America. While the coasts were grabbing headlines and the Cookies Family was building its empire out of San Francisco, Maxyields was quietly doing the kind of obsessive genetic work that eventually produces something undeniable. His stated mission was to find the most unique and remarkable traits on the planet and build something genuinely new from them. Over nearly two decades, 3rd Coast has delivered on that in a serious way — PUREMICHIGAN, TAGALONGZ, CADILLAC RAINBOWZ, and the strain that put them on every serious grower’s radar: OOOZE, the original name for what the world came to know as Oreoz.
The cross is Cookies & Cream and Secret Weapon — two strains with serious pedigrees that don’t get discussed enough when people talk about what Oreoz actually is.
Cookies & Cream is the creation of Exotic Mike at Exotic Genetix — the same Tacoma-based breeder behind Lip Smacker — and it took 1st Place at the Denver Cup in 2014. It’s a cross of Starfighter and a carefully selected GSC phenotype, most likely Thin Mint. The Starfighter side comes from Alien Genetics’ Lemon Alien Dawg and Tahoe Alien, which traces back into Chemdog and Alien Technology — some of the most influential Chemdog-derivative genetics in the American market. The GSC side pulls in OG Kush, F1 Durban Poison, and everything the Cookies family represented at its peak. Cookies & Cream is where Oreoz gets its density, its resin architecture, and that characteristic creamy-sweet cookie backbone.
Secret Weapon is a different kind of animal entirely — a Cheese Quake and White Widow cross that brings the European side of the family tree into the room. White Widow is Amsterdam royalty, a Brazilian sativa and South Indian hybrid that dominated coffeeshop menus through the 1990s and became the genetic backbone of an entire era of Dutch breeding. Cheese Quake adds the UK Cheese lineage — that famous Skunk #1 phenotype discovered in England in the late 1980s that became an underground legend in its own right — married with Querkle. Secret Weapon contributes focused, energetic cerebral character, an earthy-cheese pungency that gives Oreoz its distinctive backbone note, and the structural vigor that makes her a reliable producer.
When Maxyields combined those two lines and found OOOZE, what emerged was something that transcended both parents. The terpene profile is layered in a way that’s become a benchmark for the modern dessert category — dark chocolate and vanilla up front, coffee and toasted marshmallow in the middle, with a sour cheese and light diesel undercurrent that prevents the whole thing from going fully sweet and one-dimensional. It smells like a more sophisticated, more complex version of what a campfire s’more would be if someone with actual taste made it. Caryophyllene, limonene, and myrcene drive the terpene stack, a combination that delivers both the aromatic complexity and the effect depth that has made Oreoz a consistent top performer wherever it appears.
The buds are visually striking — dark forest green base with deep purple to near-black undertones that intensify as temperatures drop in the final weeks of flower, covered in a creamy white trichome layer so dense it genuinely looks frosted. Fire-red pistils push through the resin like embers. The calyx structure is bulging and packed, with a heaviness that feels earned rather than forced. regularly tests above 25% and has been measured well into the 30s on exceptional phenos. This is a plant that rewards experienced extractors and makes genuinely exceptional solventless concentrate.
The high is deeply physical — -dominant in the truest sense, landing with a full-body warmth that builds steadily from the first hit. Euphoria comes first, clear and pleasant, before the body weight takes over and everything slows down to a comfortable, heavy pace. Eye redness, munchies, and profound relaxation are standard; push the dose and you’re looking at serious couch time. This is not a functional daytime strain for most people. It’s a reward at the end of a long day, or a deliberate decision to go deep.
In the garden, Oreoz is manageable and surprisingly forgiving.
