Our company’s director hasn’t ever been a fan of strawberry strains so the rest of us wanted to make a strawberry strain that would suit the palate of people that aren’t particularly akin to strawberry strains.
After harvest, we did our normal blind taste tests and this strawberry certainly redeemed itself. When we finished sampling and checked labels he was shocked. It wasn’t surprising he knew it was strawberry because the overwhelming taste is tart strawberries. Actually strawberry tasting.
We took our beloved BOG Sour Dubble we used for Sour Chem Dubb and crossed it to our ‘99 Sensi Star x Strawberry Diesel IBL male. This male dumps a boatload of trichs and a very strong strawberry smell and flavor to just about everything he’s crossed to. The ‘99 Sensi Star (obtained in 2013 at the Denver cup) takes a back seat other than to add a body numbing, head in the clouds feeling with a dump truck load of trichs. The Strawberry Diesel IBL shines through, no pun intended.
The Sour Dubble from BOG that we’ve had since the very old Florida days seemed a proper fit since it’s Sour Diesel X Sour Bubble.
The phenos will vary in height but fall into the medium height category. Multiple side branches that all compete to be the main cola. Flower formation also falls between the crosses as dense, cone shaped. Bursting with trichs. She takes well to being topped once on the main stalk but then let the rest go. You’ll want to clean up the bottoms so she puts her energy into those multiple large colas. You can get away with staking the branches or you can even stake the main and use a tomato cage for the sides.
She grows well in all types of hydro, which is where you’ll get your best yield but she also does well in promix and coco. The best flavor and potency came from 10 gallon pots with promix using new millennium’s full line and plagron green sensation. The best yield came with mills full line in undercurrent. No surprise there. The yield isn’t too shabby, she’s actually a good yield even in 10 gal fabric pots of promix. If you run no till organic with teas, a lot more of that gassy, kerosene and diesel comes out with not as much of the in your face tart strawberry.
She’s easy to grow, just remember to clean up the bottoms a bit, stake her and she’ll take a proper feeding with whatever nutrients you prefer to use. She does benefit from a bloom booster of some kind, so you’ll clearly see the difference. Some will have more of a sativa/diesel look and some will have just a tad more of the ‘99 Sensi Star look. This is a strain that is actually more tolerant to cool temperatures than most. Some phenos will get a pink, violet or a black/blue hue in cooler temps.
The flavor will be full on tart strawberries, an ethanol/alcohol type fuel with a floral tulip or Easter Lilly back end.
This strain was made because the company’s director isn’t a fan of strawberry strains and this was to make one that he’d like… so we didn’t make many. Most of which were growing for our own pheno hunt. We are planning to make an F2 so this is our original release just in time for Father’s Day.
